Thanks JP5 for the invite. I was actually thinking the other day that it was only a matter of time before the ex-mods from the other site started their own forum. Hopefully everything works out. I'm sure you all know who I am. I'll try and be on good behavior while I'm here I didn't agree with a lot of you guys on the other site, but I appreciate what you tried to establish, there. The rules you enacted were sound, and I am really sorry they decided to change the rules and give supreme moderating power to one person. I believe it will ultimately ruin that site. Is there any way my user name can be capitalized? I registered "Brewskier" but when everything was said and done, it's lower case. Just a minor request. Thanks again, and I look forward to this site growing.

Welcome Brewskier. Admin will fix that Capitalization thing for ya. Same thing happened to me and others. Glad you came to give us a try. It's all very new to us as well.

Welcome aboard and becoming what I refer to as one of the "founding members" of World Politics Forum.
We have already established that we're not going to focus on the past or discuss "other" forums but instead attempt to establish the best possible forum here. As mentioned several of us were previously moderators "elsewhere" where we all worked together behind the scenes in trying to establish the best possible forum before. We've learned many lessons and while others may or may not have appreciated our individual actions I believe that our knowledge brings a lot to the table here. We certainly hope so because here we're just members where we hope to put our past experience to good use.
So, in that regard, what do you believe it will require for World Politics Forum to be the best possible forum in the internet? Obviously we need a lot more members but what else to you think is important?

You are most welcome here, Brewskier - glad to see you aboard.
You are also now capitalised - the software here seems to set all usernames as lowercase (I guess for ease of logins), but then the 'Display Name' can be changed, so it shows up on your posts with a capital. I don't know if it's something that members can do for themselves or if it's something only the Admin can do - I'm still feeling my way around the software a little bit here and there.
As Shiva has said, any ideas and suggestions are welcome.

Thanks for the welcome.
Honestly, I think the forum will need a real URL if it wants to grow to the level desired. Worldpolitics.com would be a great one. The .freeforums.net extension is a hindrance. It's no fun buying a webdomain and vbulletin software, but it will be a huge improvement over what we have now. Maybe you can ask for donations? That will also take care of the glitchiness with the usernames that has already been experienced. Vbulletin is a reliable piece of software.

Let's hope we're driven to our own domain. I'm sure that's a goal that we'd all like to see happen.

Let's hope we're driven to our own domain. I'm sure that's a goal that we'd all like to see happen. I would recommend doing that while the site is small. Moves always result in losing members along the way. Politicalbullpen went through that when they changed from PoliticalBuddies. They never recovered.

Two reasons why I went with this approach - firstly, cash (as in I don't got none at the moment!), and secondly there's a benefit to having the technical/server support and backup from the provider (and I'm not entirely convinced about the wonders of vbulletin either, having experienced some of the problems we did elsewhere! I quite like the system here). It's something I'll certainly keep in mind, though, and there is an option at this site to link to a 'proper' URL (at a cost, obviously!) without actually having to 'move' at all.

The problem we're all aware of is when the database becomes too large. I don't know how much server space is partitioned at Freeforums but we know the problems that we experienced at "the other political forum" when the huge size of the database containing millions of posts became too large and more server space was required. Will that happen here? I don't think any of us can know right now.
As I said, if we're forced to then I assume we will but there's also an old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" and we're light years from being "broke" at this point in time.
Just my opinion of course.
BTW I want to challenge everyone to invite someone from the "opposing political opinion" because that is the key to any forum. We don't want to be a bunch of bobbleheads all agreeing with each other on political topics. It is the "opposition" that really matters so find someone that you've debated with before and invite them to join.

We can never know until we know, so to speak, but I did research this kind of free forum provider (there are a number of them) through reviews and so on before starting up, and among the reasons I chose this one were, from their features page: Not all of them offer those, and hopefully they have the resources to support their claims. We are a long, long way from having to worry about that yet, though!

The .freeforums.net extension is a hindrance. worldpf.com/thread/258/worldpf-com-born(I didn't go with worldpolitics.com because that was already registered by someone - they weren't using it, but buying it off them would probably have cost big bucks, as well as being complicated. I hope that worldpf.com will fit the bill, though!)
