Brisbane 'baby in a basket' mum unlikely to be charged

Police say no charges are expected to be laid against a mother who left her newborn baby in a basket outside a home at Logan, south of Brisbane, on the weekend.

The baby boy was found abandoned on the front steps of a house at Kingston early on Saturday morning.

Police have confirmed a woman aged in her 20s who they were questioning last night is the baby's mother.

The woman was taken to Logan hospital later Sunday afternoon, where she underwent health and welfare checks.

Police say she did not turn herself in, but was found by officers.
