www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-23609994Not exactly 'political history', I know, but an interesting story nonetheless. Not a great surprise that they lived there then, of course, but evidence of it is so rare to find. It does emphasis again how important it is, though, for big building projects to pay duse care and attention to archeolocial evidence that may be being unearthed (or destroyed) by their activities.

As a kid I used to live in Woolwich so I had a look at the Crossrail site to try and work out where the construction is going on. I was there in 2010 and a lot ofconstruction activity was happening but that was further up at what used to be General Gordon Place and near the DLR and the railway station, The tunnelling looks like it's happening further towards where the old Woolwich Arsenal ordinance factory was located. Of course 9000 years ago that area was probably huge marshland near the river. That was very interesting thanks Cenydd. Just as an aside, I'm very used to thinking of history in Australia where I have lived since I was 15 as being only a couple of hundred years old, yes I'm Eurocentric. But it's ironic, we're discussing with interest evidence of human activity and habitation in London 9000 years ago. A couple of years ago I was showing overseas visitor some cave art that is pretty old - www.australia.com/campaigns/nationallandscapes/FlindersRanges.htm

...I'm very used to thinking of history in Australia where I have lived since I was 15 as being only a couple of hundred years old, yes I'm Eurocentric. I was watching a two-hour show last night that covered the entire history of the universe and on it the stated that if we condensed the entire history of the universe into just 6-years then "industrialized man" (about the last 200 years) would only account for 6-seconds out of that 6-years. Not a very long time in the big picture.
We do often see myopic Eurocentric beliefs by many. For example the Americas had been occupied by modern man for about 12,000 years before Europeans showed up. There were about 100 million people living in the Americas with major civilizations in both South and North America. With the European's advanced technology for waging war these advanced American civilizations were utterly destroyed as the Europeans had no respect for human life or the Rights of People other than for Europeans. It was literally an atrocity on a global scale that few of those with European ancestry seen to acknowledge much less regret today.
