The Opposition Leader made the gaffe at a campaign event in the Melbourne electorate of Deakin where he was implicitly criticising Prime Minister Kevin Rudd for running the government as a "one-man band".
Mr Abbott likely meant to say repository, a place for storage, but instead referred to a drug delivery system inserted into the rectum.
"You don't get good decisions from government if all the decisions are simply made by one person," he said.
"No one, however smart, however well educated, however experienced, is the suppository of all wisdom."
