Most folks from PF should recognize me to some degree. For those who aren't, I am Junkieturtle, and don't spend more than 1 second thinking about my name because it's the product of 3am windows pinball round 15 years ago. It literally has no personal meaning at all other than it's the name I made my first hotmail account with.
I enjoy politics, science, and am always curious to hear about personal experiences and personal opinions. I am not a Democrat or a Republican, a TEA Partier or a Ron Paulian. I have views that span the spectrum of liberal and conservative. I do not subscribe to a set-in-stone group of political principles. I am a pragmatist and a realist. The best ideas for me are the ones that work and the ones the solve the problem the ideas were created for in the first place. I believe government is the best counter to private influence that humanity has currently invented. I believe that a strong government is important. Now, full stop. DO NOT interpret that to mean that I think that the way our government is currently conducting itself is the way I want things to be exactly. I may believe in strong central government, but it doesn't mean I hang on Obama's every word or that I support the Democrats in everything they do. I am a person with ideas and opinions, not a Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Conservative, so on and so forth. There was once a time when I would defend the Democrats simply because they were the counter to the Republicans. No longer. I have outgrown party politics. Now, it may work out that I because of my positions and ideas and opinions, that I end up supporting the Democrats more often than the Republicans, but that does not mean I am a Democrat.
My ideal candidate/party is one that is moderate to conservative on economic policy and liberal on social policy. I am pro-choice, I support same-sex marriage, I support welfare programs to a certain degree. I am also pro-military, pro death penalty, despise eminent domain, and have no desire to take your guns away(though I do support reasonable gun control laws).
