'Malicious' blogs and Facebook posts falsely claiming a city centre pub had banned military personnel from using it forced the business to close for part of one of its busiest days of the week.
A site calling itself the Daily Bale claimed historic Everards’ pub The Globe, in Silver Street, had “enforced a new scheme which seeks to ban all British military personnel from entering their premises in fear of upsetting local non British citizens”.
The claim, which has been circulated widely on the internet today, is entirely false.
The post was accompanied by a picture of a couple which the site claimed was the landlord and landlady of The Globe, but was of a couple from a pub in Cheshire and had been lifted from a totally different, positive and unconnected story.
However, frightened staff at The Globe have received a barrage of threatening and abusive phone calls today from people who believed the false claim.

I saw that false being circulated around facebook today, along with the comments from people who were making all kinds of vicious statements against this pub and its staff on the basis of something that was a complete pack of lies. This website has sadly succeeded in whipping up tension against 'them immigrants' in order to further its campaign of hate by posting a completely made up story. How many people will have seen it and gone away thinking about how terrible an injustice was being done by the pub, without sticking around long enough to find out that there was not a single grain of truth to it at all? The answer, from what has been happening, is obviously quite a lot. And that is how such people operate - raise the tension with lies, because when the truth comes out many of the people just won't notice (or will already be too angry to care). Absolutely sickening to mess with the lives of entirely innocent people in this kind of way.
