www.news24.com/Africa/News/First-SA-wounded-as-DRC-ops-hot-up-20130826So UN troops, including troops from my own country, are currently helping DRC government troops fighting against the rebel M23 group. The problem is that the DRC government was not elected in free and fair elections. So is it right from the UN to take sides on this matter? Should they not be doing peacekeeping and not pick sides, forcing both sides to the table to find a peaceful solution? AH

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the president heads the military in the Congo under the 2006 Constitution. President Kabange was re-elected as president in 2011 by popular vote and is the lawful head of the Congolese military forces.
Am I incorrect in this?
When it comes to UN interventionism in the sovereign affairs of a nation, such as a civil war, I'm opposed to it.
