Why doesn't Rep. John Boehner simply call for a House vote to end it? Just two votes shy of what would end the shutdown if Boehner calls the House to vote on a continuing resolution to fund the federal government that is devoid of any "Obamacare" provisions. With at least 13 Republicans already willing to vote for such a resolution its very likely that two more would also support it and the impasse is over.
AND.....why doesn't Obama actually compromise and negotiate? In 1995-96, Clinton struck several compromises with Gingrich. But for some reason, Obama refuses to do anything. He's made it clear, 'it's his way or the highway.' Also----Obama is proving again what a VINDICTIVE president he is. He has taken steps to try and "make it hurt".....by closing monuments and memorials that were open during the 95-96 shutdown....and all other shutdowns. Obama has actually taken steps to close the Lincoln Memorial; the FIRST time in HISTORY, even throughout the numerous gov't shutdowns!!!! All this is probably costing more.....as he has to put in place in some cases more guards to "keep the people out." But OBAMA WANTS IT TO HURT. He's undoubtedly the MOST vindictive president EVER. He reminds me of a Mafia boss.....going to extremes to get his way and FORCE people to do as he wants. Shameful.

The Democrats have already compromised on the House continuous resolution to temporarily fund the federal government by agreeing to $70 billion in Republican proposed spending cuts.

Pony up Dims. While the details on funding and subsidies for the poor still need to be finalized Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) is now proposing a replacement plan for Obamacare........... with what is basically Obamacare in all fundamental respects. I've already started a thread on it for discussion.
worldpf.com/thread/582/gop-house-member-replace-obamacare
Of course with a proposal to replace "Obamacare" with "Obamacare" the details need to be worked out so how about Speaker Boehner calling for a vote on the continuous resolution to fund government now without linkage to Obamacare that most House members agree on? That will allow time for the discussion on Issa's proposal to take place where details on funding and subsidies can be worked out in the upcoming months. There's still a couple of months left this year to work out a deal to replace Obamacare with Obamacare.

Yes, esp the debt ceiling vote coming up in a couple of weeks. Sure hope the shutdown doesn't last that long.
This is what happens when either party pushes thru a major bill with NO support from the other side. Comes back to bite 'em in the butt.

Obamacare was passed without a single Rep vote. The poor have always had access to free medical care in this country. Now the poor with a lil money will be forced to buy insurance. Some progress. They're worse off than before.

your post is a lil screwed up Smartie..and i cannot seem to fix it...
it looks like you are putting asinine statements in my mouth instead of yours....is this a tactic? or boo boo?
you wrote:
1)how is that possible.. 2)if that was true then reform would not be necessary.
HMO's are a nightmare and not the same thing as equal care, if thats what you are talking about. so much is simply not covered and you know it.

Obamacare does nothing to lower the cost of health care. .. in fact, for many families, their cost have doubled or tripled because their premiums went up. You're rooting for the wrong team, cupcake.

You're rooting for the wrong team, cupcake. is this actually true or just republican spin. now i would do away with insurance companies liken Canada did... if your saying that people who pay insurance premiums with a certain amount of money are going to pay more and those with less are going to pay less... if the people who are going to pay more really find it makes a difference in their wealth...well then there is a problem. now since Katrina and the fact insurance companies are a global thing now....since Katrina insurance premiums for house protection has risen in Canada..no matter what your income. is that fair. seeing that Canada would never have handled Katrina in the fascist, racist , inept fashion it was .. so we suffer due to your inane republican system decisions..hopefully this won;t effect other aspects of our insurance....and yes there are studies that auto insurance went up do to Katrina as well.. all to do with derivatives and how insurance trade with one another... buttcake

John Boehner can end the government shutdown today if he brings the continuous spending resolution to the floor of the House for a vote without any "Obamacare" linkage and it would pass with bi-partisan support.
As the Speaker of the House Boehner has this authority and it is a bi-partisan solution to the shutdown of the government that the vast majority of Americans want ended.

I agree. Pres. Obama can stop it tomorrow.....if he would just be a statesman for a chance and compromise on something......and drop the "my way or the highway; I want it ALL," mantra.

Nobody's looking to 'water it down' -- we just want the people who passed Obamacare to have to use Obamacare like the rest of us. LOTS of people have gotten exemptions from Obama, including CONGRESS, his union buddies, and politically favored businesses. Fair is fair. Either we all have to participate or nobody does.

Yes.....it was a temporary compromise. Republicans wanted more....and Democrats didn't want anything. But it was temporary. There's more to do.
