I read a lot of criticisms of government by the GOP and especially the radical Tea Party faction but I'm not reading any proposed solutions to the problems.
For example I read that "welfare benefits" need to be reduced but what do they propose to mitigate the effects of poverty that drive the need for welfare benefits? Should the poor simply go hungry or homeless? The problem driving the need for welfare is poverty and yet they don't offer any solutions related to poverty. If they can resolve the "poverty" issue then they don't need to "cut benefits" because the need for benefits disappear on their own.
They also address Social Security seeking to cut benefit but Social Security already has dismal benefits. Averaging only $15,000/yr in benefits it already places over 1/2 of the recipients in a situation where they require additional welfare assistance. Does it make sense to cut Social Security retirement benefits that forces these people to rely on other government welfare programs. Does that make sense? From my perspective Social Security doesn't have a spending problem but instead it has a funding problem as it exists today. Do conservatives have a proposal that doesn't just move people from collecting Social Security to collecting Social Security AND Welfare? If the government ends up spending the same amount of money then nothing is accomplished.
So I'd like read some conservative proposals.
Address welfare where the problem is poverty that generates the need for welfare.
Address "Obamacare" where the problem is that there are those in need of medical services but can't afford them.
Address Social Security were the problem is that at least 1/2 of the American People will not invest to accumulate enough personal wealth to provide income when they retire.
Address DOD spending where no problem exists because no nation on Earth represents any threat to the United States.
Can conservative address the problems that necessitate government spending? That's what I want to find out.
