Down to 42%; a drop of 5 pts since early October.
President Barack Obama’s job approval has dropped to an all-time low, according to a new poll released Wednesday.
A new NBC News/Wall Street Journal survey shows that a mere 42 percent of Americans approve of Obama’s job performance, down five points from a poll conducted in early October. The president’s disapproval rating stands at 51 percent, tying an all-time high for Obama.
In all, 41 percent of respondents say they have a less favorable opinion of the president since the 16 day government shutdown, compared to 21 percent who say they have a more favorable view since the shutdown. Probably very accurate from where I sit as I only agree with Obama about 41% of the time.
Nothing really significant in the big picture of course. It is very unlikely that President Obama's approval rating will plummet to the all-time low his predecessor set that was below 30% before he leaves office and he's still significantly above the approval rating of Congress in general and Republicans specifically.

It is very unlikely that President Obama's approval rating will plummet to the all-time low his predecessor set that was below 30% before he leaves office and he's still significantly above the approval rating of Congress in general and Republicans specifically. But don't forget: the liberals and this administration own the mainstream media/press. Until just recently, they've rarely been criticized....and never investigated. Whatever Obama says, they accepted; no questions asked. Part of that was because he's allowed no questions.....but if they were doing their jobs, it would be different. This president is getting away with things that no other president could have EVER gotten away with. I doubt that even the first woman president will be able to get away with what this president has.
So, based on all this...and the fact Obama demonizes his enemies and uses the Bully Pulpit of the presidency to do it......it's understandable why the Congress' approval rating is low.
I gotta give you credit, though, for how you're trying to say the poll is about something else that what "approval" ratings are about. It's part of your continual defense of this guy. The approval rating poll.....as I know you know.....is about asking whether or not one agrees with the job he's doing.......period. It's not...and never has been.....what percentage of the time do you agree with him. But nice try; gotta continue helping him out and making excuses for him, eh?

Approval rating polls are interesting. If I was asked if I "approved" of any president since I became old enough to vote I'd answer "No" to every one. If I was asked questions related to specific actions by those same presidents I'd answer "Yes" to some but "No" to most.
The issue of whether Obama is better or worse than prior presidents needs to be based upon specific actions. Which president(s) were responsible for the most US soldiers deaths in wars that the United States has been involved in against a nation that didn't attack or invade the United States? Which president(s) got the US involved in the most wars where the US was not attacked or invaded by the countries the US went to war against? Which president(s) was responsible for the most cases of murder because of executive orders they issued? Which president(s) increased the national debt the most based upon percentage and/or dollar amounts? Which president(s) have violated or advocated the violations of the most international laws, US statutory laws, US treaties, and provisions of the US Constitution? The criteria becomes rather extensive for determining who really is the worst president and I would put President Obama near the top in many of these categories but I don't believe he's at the top (yet).
Or we can simply refer to "Approval Rating" polls to determine who's been the worst president although these are opinion polls as opposed to an actual analysis of the actions of a president. Most Americans are basically uninformed politically but they still have opinions about the presidents. Based upon "Approval Rating" polls President Obama is not the worst president we've had in recent decades.
Here's the difference between me and many others though. I accept these polls that are scientific studies if properly conducted. I don't "accept" some scientific studies simply because I like the results while "rejecting" other scientific studies simply because I don't like the results. If I disagree with a study I only do so if I have empirical evidence that contradicts it and not based upon political opinion.
I'm not a hypocrite when it comes to scientifically conducted polls and surveys while others that cite poll results often can be.
For example in the months before the 2012 presidential election every poll (study) on the electoral college vote reflected that Obama would win by a relative landslide but "Republicans" continued to refuse to accept these poll results. Why was that? The polls were eventually shown to be accurate and "Republicans" were "surprised" that Romney/Ryan lost. We have another scientific study from 2012 that reflected that 32% of Democrats and 79% of Republicans expressed explicit anti-black racial prejudice and "Republicans" generally don't accept that either although they have no empirical evidence to contradict that study. Why is that?

On an interesting side note when addressing "approval ratings" there are things that president's do that we do agree with. I've been highly critical of former President Bush's administration and I was challenged to come up with five things that I supported President Bush on and I did that. Not everything a president does is wrong even if many actions are. In condemning the actions of a president we also need to give credit where credit is due.
In the spirit of giving credit where credit is due please name five things that you believe that President Obama has done or attempted to do that is "right" for the nation.

5 things Obama as done right:
1) He's continued to press to get the top terrorist leaders and has NOT stopped that program. 2) He seems to be a good father to his girls. 3) He made at least MOST of the Bush tax cuts permanent
Sorry.....I cannot come up with two more. IMHO.....the more I've seen of this president, the more I realize what he meant by he was going to "fundamentally change" this country. Everything he does points to Socialism, IMO.......therefore I cannot support any of his policies.

Since taking office US domestic oil production has increased about 30%. By comparison US domestic oil production declined about 11.5% under the prior administration. Not bad even for a conservative.
The President lead the effort to end DADT that Congress finally repealed. This was both an absurd law and a flawed policy by the Military considering that gays and lesbians have always served with distinction in the US military even while at risk of being wrongfully discharged if their "secret" was ever revealed.

The increase in oil/gas production has been happening DESPITE Obama. It's not due to Obama by any means.
I did think of another positive for Obama, though.....making my list at 4. It's quite recent and relates to a case on prayer about to go before the Supreme Court.
"Nearly 120 members of Congress, mostly Republicans, along with several state attorneys general have filed supporting legal briefs backing the city. So has the Obama administration.
"The history of prayers offered in connection with legislative deliberation in this country makes clear that a legislative body need not affirmatively solicit a court-mandated variety of different religious faiths– from inside and outside the borders governed by the legislative body– in order to avoid running afoul of the Establishment Clause," said Justice Department lawyers' in their amicus brief."

I would have added one more point of "disapproval" to my rating of Obama related to prayer in legislative bodies and government functions. Religious beliefs are completely unrelated to any function of government and prayers, while traditional in many legislative bodies, serves no purpose of the people. A religious tradition that serves no purpose should not be included in government activity because our government is secular and not sectarian.
The separation of church and state has always been under assault by Christians in the United States. From the earliest imposition of Christian marriage beliefs during the earliest days of the nation, to the 1950's change to the original national motto of "E Pluribus Unum" to "In God We Trust" and the change to the original Pledge of Allegiance to include "In God We Trust" there has been an unending assault on the separation of church and state in America by Christians. We remain in the throws of that conflict between religion and the Rights of the People today by those opposed to equality in marriage based upon Christian traditions.
Sometimes traditions really need to be discarded and prayer in legislative and government sponsored functions are one of those. The tradition serves no purpose of the people and is divisive. The United States should be dedicated to unifying the People as opposed to dividing them and religious beliefs are divisive as opposed to unifying.

As I've always stated President Obama isn't as bad as his predecessor YET but he's on the road to being worse. Former President Bush set a pretty high standard for being the worse president in US history but President Obama is fully capable of breaking Bush's record before he leaves office.
From my perspective it's kind of cool that Americans, as politically ignorant as most are, do typically come to realize that our presidents are really a disgrace.
The sad part is that come the next election they'll probably choose someone that's worse because the Democrats and Republicans tend to seek out the worst possible candidate to nominate for president. When will Americans tire of voting for the "lesser of two evils" when it comes to electing the president? When will they finally come to realize that we really need a "centralist non-authoritarian" president?
We need a president with a political ideology that would fall on the far Right of the Democratic Party and also at the far Left of the Republican Party that addresses, not ignores, the "problems of America" and that works to resolve the problems as opposed to simply addressing they symptoms of the problems. Resolving the problems as opposed to addressing the symptoms results in smaller government which is something we should support. Fewer problems because they're addressed and resolved and smaller government because of it.

Shiva---you DO know, don't you, that when our Founding Fathers were writing the Constitution, they opened those sessions with a prayer? Opening Legislative sessions go all the way to the beginning of our country. For ALL those who seek to "fundamentally CHANGE" our country, they really need to consider moving to China or Russia.

Yes, I'm aware of that tradition just like I'm aware of the tradition of slavery that existed when Founding Fathers were writing the Constitution. Just because a "tradition" has a long history doesn't imply that it's a good tradition. Prayers to supernatural entities based upon the writings of men thousands of years ago that have absolutely nothing to do with the government of the nation are one of those traditions that needs to end.
Ending the "tradition of prayer" related to government activities doesn't change anything fundamental to our government because god has absolutely nothing to do with our government.

Slavery; bad and was changed......prayer; good and is here to stay. That's the difference. IF you don't care to listen then put your fingers in your ears or step out of the room. No one is MAKING you adhere to any religion....and that is ALL our Constitution says.
