Comcast (my ISP) is now running the results of a survey by 24/7 Wall St., as regarding America's best-run states and its worst-run states. The criteria include "financial data, as well as the services they provide and their residents' standard of living."
Here are those results:
The Best-Run States:
#5: Utah #4: Nebraska #3: Iowa #2: Wyoming #1: North Dakota
The Worst-Run States:
#5: Nevada #4: Rhode Island #3: Illinois #2: New Mexico #1: California
Although it is not quite a perfect match, it would appear that those states that go red, in presidential elections, are among the best-run States; whereas those that go blue (or are trending blue) are among the worst-run States.
Interesting...

I do find it interesting that California, which probably has a population greater than all of the listed "Republican" states combined, is ranked as #1 in the "Worst State" category today as Democratic Governor Jerry Brown, only in office since 2011, is trying to sort out the huge financial mess left by his Republican predecessor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Jerry Brown did not create the financial mess that California finds itself in today as that was created under Republican governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Shiva--you never cease to amaze me. I've never met anyone like you who claims so strongly to be a Libertarian, but who seems to have never met a LIBERAL they don't like or don't defend. Jerry Brown? Really? The state hasn't recovered yet from the first time he was Governor.

Ah but I have serious problems with both "social conservatives" and "progressive liberal" ideologies as both represent authoritarian government but the "progressive liberal" is the lesser of the two evils and I can point out why.
Progressive liberals are advocates for the civil rights of persons which is based upon the Inalienable Rights of the Person. They also advocate government mitigating the effects of the violations of the Inalienable Rights of the Person which "social conservatives" typically oppose.
Social conservatives can be best associated with a belief in "property rights" but their endorsement is based upon the political ideology of the "Divine Right of Kings" specifically when it comes to land which violates the Inalienable Rights of the Person. A person cannot literally "own land" as the Earth is not a product of the labor of the Person. At best a person can establish a limited right to the usage of land so long as it doesn't violate the identical Rights of other Persons to use the same land.
In truth the "social conservatives" of today are still advocating WASP male domination in the United States based upon the Divine Right of Kings as opposed to the Inalienable Rights of the Person and for me that is highly objectionable. Social conservatives seem to have no clue when it comes to the Inalienable Rights of the Person and are still living in the 19th Century where WASP male land owners created their own little "kingdoms" in the Southern States based upon the "Divine Right of Kings" where the WASP male "land owner" not only owned the "land" but also the people under slavery. They simply never accepted the "Inalienable Rights of ALL Persons" which was the foundation for government in the United States.
This does not imply that the "progressive liberals" are without serious flaws (e.g. large government authoritarianism) in their political agenda but at least in their actions they are more aligned with the political ideology of the Inalienable Rights of ALL Persons today. Progressive liberals admittedly do a poor job of mitigating the effects of violations of the Rights of the Person in many respects but at least they try to do something about it while "social conservatives" remain opposed to doing anything about it.
I am a staunch advocate of the Inalienable Rights of the Person and the "progressive liberals" have a distinct advantage with compared to the "social conservatives" in politics today related to this issue.
