Heard on the news these teens go before a judge today. Hope they'll be scared straight... otherwise they're in for a lifetime of struggles.

I don't care what the excuse is assault and battery is completely unacceptable. Maybe (hopefully) they'll clean up their act and become responsible adults in the future. I can't think of any of the kids that I grew up with that didn't screw up as teenagers to some degree and we turned out okay (except for one that became a cop. LOL)

I'm not going to continue arguing over the Zimmerman case. It was decided by a FAIR jury based on the FACTS. It's done; It's over. And the race baiters should have never tried to make it racial when it was not.
End of story.

I wonder how Papa rates suffering..being beaten is a bit more traumatic than worrying about what is going to happen to you after you assault someone. Broken arms hurt as well as being hit 50 times, worrying about your misdeeds cannot possibly compare.

Good point Daisy. Not to mention, the 13 year old was doing what schools and authorities tell them to do; that if someone in school tries to sell you drugs, report them to the school. If I was the parent of that 13 year old, first I would sue the school.
Unbelievable that no other kid on that bus helped the young man. They didn't even try. That tells me that the 3 thugs are feared because of their reputations. They should NOT be allowed back in that school...and they should spend some time in juvenile detention. Instead they got 9 months probation.....which means the 13 year old suffers a whole lot longer than they do....for what they did. Sickening.

The school should have called in the parents of the one caught selling drugs and had him removed from the premise. They were at fault for not recognizing a potential trouble spot.

End of story. But it's not over because the jury in the State case did not address the probable violation of the civil rights of Martin which is a federal statute and not a state statute. A jury cannot decide a case that it's not presented with. The issue of racial prejudice was not addressed in the State prosecution but it would be under federal prosecution.
Back to the "point" of the thread which is why didn't leaders in the African-American community not address the news story presented in the OP and that answer was simple. The crime committed wasn't based upon racial prejudice (or there is no indication that it was) because it was based upon the black market in drugs. Race shouldn't even have been mentioned in the news story at all because it had no apparent bearing on the crime. The inclusion of "race" in the news story actually represented "racism" as it attempted to imply that the crime was racially based when the facts didn't support that conclusion.
What is sad is that today the social conservatives blame the victims of racial prejudice and discrimination as opposed to taking responsibility for the racial prejudice and discrimination that creates the victim. It is akin to blaming the woman that is raped while refusing to address the actions of the rapist.

Race was ONLY an issue in the Zimmerman case because the race baiters made it so. Zimmerman had every right to be walking around his OWN neighborhood too!! He didn't deserve someone to jump out, surprise him, and break his nose on the first punch and then proceed to beat the Holy hell out of him MMA style. The racist was Martin who told his girlfriend that some "white cracker" was following him. Sorry, but someone following you is NOT a crime. Martin got physical; Zimmerman did not. I'm not saying Martin deserved to die. But I am saying that he caused what happened by attacking Zimmerman first. Had he not done so, and had just gone on home......none of it would have happened.
In my neighborhood, we've had break-ins too. And you can bet your bottom dollar that we ALL keep our eyes open for strangers or someone we don't recognize. It's called being observant. And it's even what police will tell you to do.

Race is only an issue in this incident because those with a racial agenda inserted it into straightforward if vicious, teen beating.

He was following a person that he decided was on drugs and was a criminal because the person was a young black teenager. Zimmerman's actions, while technically legal related to assault, were illegal under the US civil rights laws because his decision to follow Martin based upon racial stereotyping that resulted in the death of Martin violated Martin's civil rights (i.e. The right to life). At least that is how I read the civil rights law. Had Zimmerman not assumed that Martin was "on drugs and a criminal" because he was a black teenager he wouldn't have followed Martin and Martin would not be dead. That is a simple fact that too many white conservatives seem to ignore in trying to make excuses for Zimmerman killing Martin.

Suggestion if people want to discuss Zimmerman start a thread. Zimmerman is off topic.

Suggestion if people want to discuss Zimmerman start a thread. Zimmerman is off topic. A good suggestion and the issue of Zimmerman/Martin was only introduced into this thread because the question of why African-American political leaders distinguish between cases of racial prejudice because they have first hand knowledge of it and why they don't in other cases such as the news story which wasn't related to a racially motivated crime but where racism was introduced by the writer of the news story. Zimmerman/Martin is only relevant because overwhelmingly the African-American community, which has personally experienced racial prejudice, clearly identifies racial prejudice in Zimmerman's actions while white conservatves, that have predominately never experienced prejudice of any kind, seem completely blind to it. I would suggest that those that have never experienced prejudice of any kind learn from those that experience prejudice on a daily basis.

IF YOU were a Captain of the Neighborhood watch in your neighborhood and your neighborhood had been having a rash of break-ins and residents being terrorized, and those doing the breaking-in had been identified as "young black teens"......then you are telling us you would do absolutely NOTHING if you saw a "young black teen" that you didn't recognize and walking suspiciously close to the homes, you would NOT do a thing about it. Is that what you're telling us?

Is that what you're telling us? I would do exactly what the Neighborhood Watch guidelines direct a member of the watch to do. I would report the person and record identifying information about them and then wait for law enforcement to arrive. I would not have taken any other action, such as following the person, that could potentially lead to a confrontation which the Neighborhood Watch guidelines expressly prohibit. I've been a member of a neighborhood watch and this was exactly what our law enforcement counterparts directed us to do. DON'T DO ANYTHING THAT COULD POTENTIALLY LEAD TO A CONFRONTATION AND/OR ANYTHING THAT WOULD ENDANGER ANY PERSON.
I would also refrain from misrepresenting the facts. There had been several break-ins but only one arrest that happened to be a black teenager. That did not imply that "black teenagers" were committing all of the break-ins.
Back to the point of why this case was brought up. We have tens of millions of African-Americans that have been subjected to racial profiling on almost a daily basis that clearly recognize that Zimmerman racially profiled Martin that night and we have millions of "White Conservatives" that have never been subjected to racial profiling that are living in denial of it happening that night. Basically we have "personal experience v uninformed opinion" and I would suggest that "personal experience" trumps "uninformed opinion" every time.
