Howdy! I'm JP5 and coming here from PF where I was a moderator for 9 years. I'm a proud Texan, married my high school sweetheart (almost 48 yrs now), have a son, daughter-in-law and 2 beautiful grandsons who are my pride and joy!! I'm a Republican, although I came from a Democrat family. I am not hard-right and don't really care for the extremes of either party. Defining "extreme" is sometimes the problem.
I like learning about other countries and their politics, so perhaps that can be a good thing here. Looking forward to it. JP5

HI JP5! What? Minimum 10 words? I guess I shouldn't test the word censor in my first post.

Hi JP5.
Here's something that perhaps you can address in the political ideology forum for Conservatism. What do you like and dislike about the Republican Party agenda or Party Platform? Perhaps take separate issues and address them in different threads.
For example what is your take on marriage equality in the United States? While Republicans independently are moving more and more towards equality for same-gender couples under the law the Party Platform, if I'm not mistaken, still opposes it.
Another good one is more a matter of "practice" where evangelical Christian Republicans often express the belief that the Bible is the Supreme Law of the Land as opposed to the US Constitution. The influence of evangelical Christains is apparently waning in the Republican Party (e.g. Romney was the presidential candidate last year and we know that evangelical Christians would have preferred someone more like Rick Perry over a Mormon) but they still have a lot of influence.
There are obviously lots of things that you might support or oppose based upon the Republican Party platform on the major groups that are influential in Republican Party politics. It would be fun to see your personal political opinions in this regard.

Hello, and welcome to the forum. HI JP5! What? Minimum 10 words? I guess I shouldn't test the word censor in my first post. Yup - it's a minimum word count here, rather than a minimum character count. I thought 10 would be a good level to start at, but I'll keep that under review, and we'll see how it goes. There are (or should be, if it's working!) also little cup 'awards' that appear at the top of posts that are over a certain number of words, just to encourage people to make thoughtful posts. They don't mean anything practical, though, so nobody should be worried about saying things briefly - sometimes that can be more effective, if it's done well! Please feel free to test the word censor (I haven';t tested that yet, so it would be good to know if it works as it's supposed to), and also let me know if there are other words that you think could or should be censored. I don't want to go mad and 'hide' any minor little swear words or other terms because one person doesn't really appreciate them, but on the other hand there could be words that cause offence and friction that are better off not being used and could be added to the list - again, it's something that will be kept under review, and any cases that anyone wants to suggest will be considered.

Jesus *love*ing Christ. What type of *top dude* would create a damn word filter? Probably blocks racial slurs like *person* and spic as well as other *fairy dust* that allows a *sweetie* to express their *love*ed up opinions and bitches which these *cake* swallowing thunder *teddy bears* like to say.
BTW you can delete this experiment if you want.

It really is a case where not everything can be blocked or converted into some cute word. I did like the *top dude" conversion though. LOL As you know, because you did it, this is a reference to an "excrement head" person.

I don't know to bitch and complain isn't bad nor is the *cake* crowing at daybreak. Even "spic-n-span" has a problem with would preclude an edit to spic. It's almost impossible to cover everything. Can't eliminate "frog" for example which is a slur when used for the French. Tough cases when there are multiple meanings. Now "libtard" and "contard" should probably be both changed to *(I'm an idiot)* LOL

Do we have a problem in discussing retarded children? Do we have to refer to them as "mentally challenged" in our posts?

Methinks we go too far on the filter.... it is problematic because it uses string criteria and that can cause problems with ordinary speech.

LOL As you know, because you did it, this is a reference to an " excrement head" person.
Agreed - you can't possibly cover every base, and something that's used as a replacement will also inevitably have different meanings in different circles (that's not the way I'd use that term, by the way, but I was well aware of that use/meaning). I'll play with it a bit over time, obviously, but I decided that if you are going to replace rude words using a filter you might as well have some fun with it! Also, any people who get frustrated by typing something they really shouldn't and having something kind of opposite (or just cute) in meaning appear instead might just get the message, and learn to use less offensive terms instead!

Yup - it's a work in progress. I'll keep thinking about it and tweaking it.
Meanwhile, spare a thought for the people who live in the town of Scunthorpe (s.c.u.n.t.h.o.r.p.e.) - there's probably almost no board in the web where they can just type in the name of their hometown!
I'll leave the off topic stuff about this up for the moment for reference (with apologies to JP5), have another look at tomorrow, and then delete it.
Right now, though, talking of profanity, Gordon Ramsey is just starting on TV, so I need to sign off!

Is there a way to make all the print larger? Having to do it for every post is cumbersome and time-consuming. Plus, on some posts....like this one, the choice is not even available.
